WHAT IS CYBERVIOLENCE ?

Cyberviolence is defined as cybercrime that may or may not be a criminal offence, or may lead to an attack on a person's physical, psychological or emotional well-being.
It can be done or experienced by an individual or a group on the internet, via smartphone, during online games, etc.
Although cyberbullying takes place on the internet, it affects offline users and has a real impact on the world.
Some examples of cyberbullying include, but are not limited to:

  • cyberbullying
  • threats
  • bullying
  • blackmail
  • unwanted sexting
  • pursuit / monitoring
  • verbal violence
  • deception
  • non-consensual disclosure of images or videotaping

Cyberbullying against young women and gender-based violence requires multi-level strategies that target every online platform.

23% of the harassment victims,  report that they were forced to change their email address or phone number due to a serious harassment incident.
Internet platforms and social media should actively assist victims of harassment to report incidents of abuse and be encouraged to actively address the perpetrators' behaviour.
It is an issue that concerns everyone and requires real change ... it requires education, and support especially for young women.
